Podgorica

The capital city of Montenegro has been largely rebuilt after World War II so there are plenty of modern buildings.

Podgorica is one of the main stages of cultural and musical events in Montenegro so there are a lot of activities all year round.

There are also many parks and green spaces, but one of the most famous landscapes in the area can be seen through Moraca River Canyon.

This is one of the most beautiful and dangerous roads in the world, but the view will not disappoint you.

Perast

This is your dreamy UNESCO protected the small town, located at the foot of the hill, inviting you to relax and breathe in the fresh air. If you take a walk by the coast, you will see the two mysterious islands.

One of them is called Our Lady of the Rocks and if you ask the locals, they will be more than happy to share its peculiar story with you.

The church located on this man-made islands will amaze you with architecture and paintings and there is even a ceremony which takes place there every year when boats gather around the island to commemorate its foundation.

Lovcen National Park and Njegos Mausoleum

This National Park is definitely a must-see for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts. Mt Lovcen reigns over the park and there are plenty of hiking paths all the way to the top located at an altitude of 1750m.

There are other peaks as well, for example, peak Jereski. There are many people climbing the mountain to get to the Njegos Mausoleum.

This is the place to admire all Montenegro, as you have visibility over most of the country from up there.

Needless to say that the scenery is just breathtaking.  Montenegro’s greatest hero rests in the tomb built in the mountain in cold marble.

Kotor

Kotor is listed on the UNESCO World Natural and Historical Heritage list as a wonderful example of a medieval town.

Built between the 12th and the 14th century, Kotor is sheltered by the mountain and fed by the small bay.

The cobbled streets will take you to see well-preserved medieval structures and historical buildings.

The symbol of the city is the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon, an indication of the Roman culture.

Sveti Stefan

Sveti Stefan is a fortified village located on the island, connected by a narrow beach to the shore.

Although the island itself is a luxury resort and only available to guests, the view from the shore is still amazing.

The food is delicious and you can have your dinner by the candlelight with a very special scenery – the imposing fortress on the island.

There is also the beach, of course, so you can enjoy some quality time in the sun while admiring the landscape.

If you enjoy taking walks, make sure to visit the still working Praskvica Monastery, build in the 15th century.

Interrail Montenegro Route
